South Main Street Church of Christ is proud to be a part of 63 local churches that support Elkhorn Valley Christian Service Camp.

Elkhorn Valley Christian Service Camp exists to train Christians how to live a Godly life in an ungodly world. This is done through weeks of camp and retreats that are held at the camp or that are organized offsite.

With 225 acres of some of God's awesome creation, Elkhorn Valley Christian Service Camp offers the ideal location to find fellowship in Christ.  Starting in 1958, Elkhorn has been a haven to youth and adults alike as they come seeking the truth and finding comfort in God's love.

Elkhorn Valley offers a number of programs and facilities so that families, church groups, committees and school groups can take advantage of getting away to learn and grow.

Summer camp, retreats, workshops, picnics, high and low ropes, campfires, Winter Retreats, and much more give plenty of opportunity to experience the  tranquil setting that Elkhorn Valley has to offer.

Sunday through Friday at Elkhorn Valley Christian Service Camp through the months of June, July, and August are non-stop fun, fellowship and spiritual growth.  Youth camps for grade levels entering first grade through twelfth grade offer great opportunities for the youth of today to meet new friends and find new life in Christ.  With a lake, water slide, swimming pool, basketball, volleyball, softball, high & low challenge course, indoor rock climbing facility, picnics, hiking, games bible study, worship services, campfires and much more, the camp offers an exciting place to go for a memorable experience.

Elkhorn Valley has started a capital campaign called "RISE UP AND BUILD."

The Campaign's Purpose

"But each one should be careful how he builds..." (I Cor. 3:10a). A building is only as solid as its foundation. As Christians, we believe the foundation of our lives is Jesus Christ, and it is the wise man that builds his life on that truth.

We are raising money to build a water treatment system, swimming pool, and girls' dorm, but those are just tools we will use for a greater purpose. We are building lives. "And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit." (Eph. 2:22) God does not dwell in a building; He lives in us and shows Himself to the world through us. People will see that God is love and that Jesus is Lord when we live as a city on a hill that cannot be hidden.

We are not asking you to help us build physical structures, but to make a commitment to the young people who have yet to hear the saving message of Jesus, as well as edifying believers striving to live in a way that brings glory to God. Your participation ensures that Elkhorn Valley Christian Service Camp can continue its ministry of leading young people to Jesus. "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith..." (Col. 2:6,7a). That is what this campaign is all about, helping children get rooted in Christ Jesus, building them up in Him, strengthening their faith. Along the way they will build memories and friendships, they'll build confidence in the Lord and in His power to protect and provide for them. They will build a solid foundation on the Rock of Ages, Jesus Christ or Lord.

This is a worthwhile endeavor, and we are asking you to prayerfully consider how you will be able to join us as we "RISE UP AND BUILD."

Overview of the Capital Campaign

Three Main Projects Totaling: $1,200,000

Waste Treatment Plant: $210,000 - This facility will process and dispose of the camp's waste water. Our present system no longer meets EPA standards, and we have been placed on a mandatory replacement schedule. This plant will serve as the bridge to future development as we are unable to build any new buildings until our present waste water system is replaced.

Swimming Pool: $125,000 - The swimming pool is a large part of the camp experience and a much needed refresher on hot summer afternoons.  A new pool will replace the present 40-year-old pool which is in serious disrepair.  This replacement is long overdue as our present pool is not cost effective to either maintain or remodel.  There will be no downtime in this process as we will continue to use our present pool until the new pool is completed.

Girls' Dormitory: $825,000 - This facility will be constructed for year-round use and will be located where the present multipurpose building rests.  It will include four girl's dorms, three meeting spaces, two small apartments, and an office complex.  It will function as a girls' dorm and additional housing in the summer, a retreat facility in the off-season, and an office complex all year.  The present girls' dorms will be converted into staff housing, dean's and nurse's quarters, and the first aid station.

The Campaign's Purpose

To make this possible, a capital gifts program has been developed: Rise Up and Build.  The goal is $1,200,000.  Trustees, Directors, Staff, Churches, and the Elkhorn Valley Family will be contacted to raise these funds to keep the camp from continuing debt.

Needs and Problems Facing our Community

The number of active members in some of our area churches is declining, and the number of summer campers has also been on a steady decline for the past ten years. Our ministers, burdened with the heavy load brought on by this time in history, are in need of encouragement and care. Our youth are searching for meaning, significance, and purpose. Thousands of students in our schools are targeted every year as "at risk" for destructive behaviors. Our media-saturated culture is training youth and adults alike to focus on the material and physical, rather than on the spiritual and the eternal.

Elkhorn Valley's Commitment

Our Commitment to the Local Churches-Elkhorn Valley is a catalyst for positive change and renewal in our churches and our community. We  encourage growth in the local church through quality one-day and two-day programs focused on relevant topics (leadership development, teacher training, church financial seminars). Through the annual Ministers and Wives Retreat, we provide rejuvenation and renewal to local ministers.

Our Commitment to Youth- God does mighty things through Elkhorn Valley Christian Service Camp all year long. The messages of Jesus Christ is communicated effectively through quality programs and facilities during our summer camp. In addition, we offer Reality Walk, weekend retreats for all ages, and the Millsop Overnighter, which enable us to minister to youth all year long. Our challenge course program, Elkhorn Valley Adventures, reaches out to thousands of youth every year, teaching them about conflict resolution, goal-setting, respect for others, and positively contributing to the world around them. Our year-round facilities can be used by different groups of people, schools, outdoor education camps, sports teams, band camp, etc.
